Dear Morteza,

I acknowledge receipt of your official information request for the number of PhD students who failed outright their viva voce examinations for 2018-2020. We understand an "outright failure" of an oral examination to mean the outcome where no degree is awarded, as distinct from the outcome where the doctoral degree is not awarded but the candidate is invited to fulfil the requirements for the award for the award of the MPhil degree. If you mean something different by "outright failure", please respond as soon as possible by return email to clarify your request.

We will respond to your request as soon as practicable and in any event no later than 20 working days from the date of receipt. In the event that we are unable to respond to your request by then, we will notify you of an extension of that timeframe.

Yours sincerely,

Landon Watt

Dear Morteza,

I refer to your official information request of 16 November 2020 for the number of PhD students who "failed outright" their viva voce examinations for 2018-2020. The University's response follows:

* The outcome of a PhD examination, post oral examination, was "not to award any degree" in the case of two examinations in 2020.
* The outcome of a PhD examination, post oral examination, was "not to award any degree" in the case of zero examinations in 2019 and 2018.

Yours sincerely,
