Dear University of Auckland,

Please provide data on the threshold GPA needed to receive an interview under the RRAS for medicine in 2020 and 2019 entry.

With regards to Section 12 of the Official Information Act 1982, I am a New Zealand citizen and located in New Zealand.

Dear University of Auckland,

I also have noted, that for 2020 entry, the GPA threshold for an interview was 6.8. However, in another post, it was stated that the successful applicant with the lowest gpa from FY had a gpa of 6.25. Could you clarify this?

Yours faithfully,

Ushil Patel

Dear Ushil Patel,

I refer to your request of 18 August 2020, referring to the University’s
OIA response to another requester published at
[1]https://fyi.org.nz/request/12323-rras-mb...

For MBChB admissions under the First Year Category, the relevant GPA is
the “Core GPA”, based on the applicant’s grades in CHEM 110, BIOSCI 107,
POPLHLTH 111 and MEDSCI 142. In 2020 the successful FY RRAS applicant with
the lowest grade had a Core GPA of 6.25. However, at the time FY
applicants are selected for interviews, their grades for MEDSCI 142 are
not available, and so they are assessed for interview based on a “Core
Optimal GPA” comprised of the applicants’ actual grades for CHEM 110,
BIOSCI 107, POPLHLTH 111  and a placeholder grade of A+ for MEDSCI 142.
Accordingly, a student who receives a grade lower than A+ for MEDSCI 142
will have a lower Core GPA (used for selection into the MBChB) than their
Core Optimal GPA (used for interview selection).

Yours sincerely,

Rebecca Ewert

Dear Ushil Patel,

I refer to your request of 4 August 2020. The information requested follows:

Interview GPA cut-off (for both first year and graduate):* First Year RRAS category Interview core GPA cut-off for 2019: 7.25 First Year RRAS category Interview core GPA cut-off for 2020: 6.8 Graduate General category Interview GPA cut-off for 2019: 6 Graduate General category Interview GPA cut-off for 2020: 6.8
*Note: Interview GPA cut-offs for applicants under First Year category were based on Core Optimal GPA. At the time of interview selection, MEDSCI 142 grade is not yet available; hence, interview selection is based on the average of actual grades for CHEM 110, BIOSCI 107 and POPLHLTH 111, and best possible grade for MEDSCI 142 (A+). Interview GPA cut-offs for Graduate applicants differ for those who have all their grades at the time of interview shortlisting, and those who have yet to complete their programmes of study. The statistics provided are above are for those who had all their grades at the time of interview shortlisting.

Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Ewert
