Dear Mr Scott,

 

I refer to your Official Information request dated 19 February 2020 for
the Palmerston North City Council’s Privacy Policy / Statement and all
Privacy Act training material used within the Council, details of who
receives this training and how often.  We respond to each of your requests
below. 

 

Privacy Policy

 

The Council’s privacy policy as it relates to the use of its website can

Council does not have a more general Privacy Policy / Statement. The
Council’s approach to privacy is governed by the provisions of the Privacy
Act 1993 (“Act”).  We can advise that the organisation wide policy
framework is currently under review. 

 

Training

 

The Council provides training to employees who deal with personal
information as part of their role, for example, regulatory and
customer-facing functions that use our internal databases.  Training is
provided biennially.  The next training is scheduled for July – September
2020. 

 

The Council’s current privacy training uses the training materials
provided by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner which are publicly

The Council also has a legal counsel who is able to assist council
officers with queries as and when they arise and provide legal advice
regarding the Council’s obligations under the Act. 

 

You have a right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
