Excluding livestock from freshwater and archaeological remains at Ōtuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve

Chris Werry made this Official Information request to Auckland Council

The request was partially successful.

From: Chris Werry

Dear Auckland Council,

Can you please advise if the grazing contract and/or internal farm management policies for Ōtuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve require livestock to be excluded from freshwater sources and archaeological remains?

If they do not, can you confirm whether this is normal practice?

In terms of freshwater I am particularly interested in the following locations:
* Lake at 36°58'55.3"S 174°45'00.2"E near the northwesternmost gate from Watercare Coastal Walkway
* Freshwater spring at 36°58'51.2"S 174°45'12.7"E where the Ihumātao Quarry Rd paper road meets the Watercare Coastal Walkway
* Freshwater spring at 36° 58' 43.752'' S 174° 45' 26.2548'' E on the northern boundary of the reserve where it almost meets the Watercare Coastal Walkway

Thank you for your assistance.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Werry

Good afternoon Mr Werry,

I refer to your information request regarding the Ōtuataua Stonefields
Historic Reserve.

There is currently no grazing licence on Ōtuataua Stonefields Historic
Reserve. If grazing is proposed, it will require livestock to be excluded
from freshwater sources and managed appropriately to preserve
archaeological remains.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Ngā mihi | Kind regards,

Yusuf Khan | Senior Property Manager
