State Housing Build
Matthew Hooton made this Official Information request to Kāinga Ora–Homes and Communities
The request was partially successful.
From: Matthew Hooton
Dear Kāinga Ora–Homes and Communities,
Housing and poverty are matters of enormous public interest in New Zealand.
Since 1 January 2018, I large number of new state houses have become available for occupancy and the government is keen to publicise this success and the opposition to critique it.
Under the OIA, could you please advise me, for each month since January 2018:
1. How many new state houses became available for immediate occupancy in the given month?
2. Of these, how many were consented before 1 October 2017?
3. For how many was an initial decision to proceed with construction made by your agency before 1 October 2017?
4. For how many had construction begun before 1 October 2017?
5. How many state houses ceased to be available for occupancy? (That is, what was the net figure of new houses available for occupancy for the month?)
Thank you for your prompt response to this request given the high public interest in the matter and the ease of providing the information by a well-managed government housing agency.
Yours sincerely
Matthew Hooton
