Hi Luke,

At the request of both NZ and overseas observers, I am investigating a possible conflict of interest between TVNZ and Ms Iyia Liu. In particular, attempts made by TVNZ to promote Ms Liu and stop reporting into her investment which has ties to an alleged series of money laundering schemes ran by her parents.

This is covered in my previous writing (included below), where Iyia Liu was found to have had a $3.5 million mortgage in a trust tied to an alleged mortgage fraud scheme called Waiwera Heights Country Club Limited.

The $3.5 million is also a claim that Ms Liu made with TVNZ in 2016 when she talked about her business performance with a company called Waist Trainer. Recently, her investments were found to be tied to a suspected launderer and property scammer named Augustine Lau who is currently in prison for environmental and building act violations.

The judge in Mr Lau's case highlighted irregularities in his properties, citing the ownerships in properties only lasting for less than a day before being sold to another mortgagee would would later default.

The pattern fits a money laundering patter called the Vancouver Model, in which property was bought and sold in order to launder money between Canada and China.

*I meant 2018 was when TVNZ featured Iyia Liu, not 2016.

Dear Alex

I refer to your latest request below.

The number of streams per date is set out below. I note that 24 August was a Saturday, not a Tuesday, so I have included the daily streams until Tuesday 27 August. Naturally the higher Tuesday viewing figures each week reflect the fact that new episodes were released that day.

Date Streams
Tuesday, 6 August 2019 12,067
Wednesday, 7 August 2019 10,205
Thursday, 8 August 2019 8,634
Friday, 9 August 2019 8,845
Saturday, 10 August 2019 7,087
Sunday, 11 August 2019 5,564
Monday, 12 August 2019 5,076
Tuesday, 13 August 2019 13,255
Wednesday, 14 August 2019 10,593
Thursday, 15 August 2019 6,961
Friday, 16 August 2019 6,582
Saturday, 17 August 2019 6,399
Sunday, 18 August 2019 5,446
Monday, 19 August 2019 4,244
Tuesday, 20 August 2019 12,456
Wednesday, 21 August 2019 10,837
Thursday, 22 August 2019 8,254
Friday, 23 August 2019 5,964
Saturday, 24 August 2019 4,994
Sunday, 25 August 2019 4,736
Monday, 26 August 2019 3,979
Tuesday, 27 August 2019 9,431

In relation to your other questions:

- A "stream" counts whenever a piece of content is started. As most of our content starts with a pre-roll advertisement, this is what a viewer will see first.

- No average time spent watching Bos Babes is available, however completion rates for Boss Babes are higher than the TVNZ On Demand average (which is around 60%). Completion rates increased over the life of the series - this is to be expected as those enjoying later episodes were more committed viewers.

This is important context which should be reflected in any commentary you publish on this matter.

Yours sincerely
Brent McAnulty
