Under the Official Information Act, I am requesting the following
information:

The number of residential and commercial electricity connections in each
region of New Zealand, broken down by region (e.g., region or district)
and by electricity retailer, for the most recent 12-month period
available.

The average electricity consumption (in kWh) per connection in each region
over the same period, also broken down by retailer.

The average cost per kWh charged to consumers by each electricity
retailer, ideally also regionally disaggregated if possible.
 
We will endeavour to respond to your request as soon as possible, and no
later than 4/09/2025, being 20 working days after the day your request
was received. If we are unable to respond to your request by then, we will
notify you of an extension of that timeframe. If you have any enquiries

I refer to your official information request dated 26 August 2025 for:

The OIA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no
later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are
therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our
decision, to 21 October 2025.

 

This extension is necessary because consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

 

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
