Warnings to National MPs about West Paupa
Joshua Grainger made this Official Information request to Minister of Foreign Affairs
Response to this request is long overdue. By law Minister of Foreign Affairs should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Joshua Grainger
Dear Minister of Foreign Affairs,
It was reported today ("Nats warned not to support Papuan activist", TV3 website) that you had warned two National Party MPs against attending a talk by West Paupan activist Benny Wenda. It appears that you were speaking as a Minister in doing so, given that it is reported that you said that the 'Government "would not favour that"', which seems to indicate behavior on behalf of the Government.
I would like to request under the Official Information Act:
* the content of the warning delivered to these two National MPs. If the warning was in documentary form, such as an email, I would like to request the document, and if it was oral I would like to request what was orally said.
I would also like to request any documents, including papers, emails, or other such correspondence that give the background as to exactly why this warning was delivered.
Feel free to contact me if you wish me to clarify my request.
Yours faithfully,
Joshua Grainger

On behalf of Hon Murray McCully, thank you for your email. Your
correspondence has been noted.
Please be aware that the Minister receives a large volume
of correspondence every day which means we cannot always respond as
rapidly as some email users may anticipate.
While the minister considers all correspondence to be important, if you
are writing to express a personal view, your opinion will be noted but a
response beyond this acknowledgement may not necessarily be sent.
Kind regards,
The Office of Hon Murray McCully
