Sex Offender Register Proposal

Joshua Grainger made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was partially successful.

From: Joshua Grainger

Dear New Zealand Police,

Last year I requested under the Official Information Act from the Police information related to a proposal for a sex offender register. This information was withheld following the results of an inquiry into a convicted sex offender. The correspondence for this earlier request can be viewed at http://fyi.org.nz/request/191/response/2...

This inquiry has now been carried out and a final report issued (http://www.minedu.govt.nz/theMinistry/Em...). Due to this I would like to request the documents again, as the ground used to previously withhold the documents no longer applies.

Specifically, I would like to request the following documents identified in the previous response regarding sex offender registration:

* a briefing to the Minister of Police dated 21/03/12
* a Police research paper, which was in draft form at the time of my request
* two emails dated 28/03 and 04/04 from the Police to the Minister of Police
* an email to the Department of Corrections dated 03/04
* an email to the Ministry of Justice dated 07/04
* an email to the Ministry of Education dated 18/04

Feel free to contact me if you wish me to clarify my request.

Yours faithfully,

Joshua Grainger

Dear New Zealand Police,

May I please receive an update on the status of my OIA request regarding the proposal for a sex offenders register? According the Ombudsman's calculator a response was due on the 25th of February, but I have not yet received one.

Yours faithfully,
