Dear C Sepuloni (MIN),

Unfortunately your response to my enquiry under the Official Information Act was not helpful because you did not answer my main question – but you answered a question I have never asked!

I never asked for a copy of the report "New Zealand Superannuation and Veteran's Pension: Modernisation and Simplification"!

Instead I had asked for a copy of the report you had requested from MSD officials on the "NZS settings" you had mentioned in a previous letter to me.

This report was due to be presented to you by end of last year and then postponed to early this year (February, as far as I know).

I wonder what has become of this report and why it has taken MSD officials so long to give you advice on the settings of NZ Super with special regard to Section 70. You have been in government for one and half years now and since then you have refused to enlighten affected pensioners on the issue after your party had promised pre-election to look into the issue and unfairness of this law. The only thing we have understood is that obviously no changes are planned and that Labour have broken their election promise. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yours sincerely,

Guenter Langenbucher

Kia ora Guenter,

Thank you for your email. I am writing to clarify that the Cabinet Paper "New Zealand Superannuation and Veteran's Pension: Modernisation and Simplification" and the report mentioned in the Minister's previous response to you regarding NZS settings, are one and the same.

I trust that this clarifies things, but please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Warm regards,
Hannah
