Dear Richard
I refer to your request below.
There were three meetings between TVNZ and New Zealand's security intelligence services in 2018.
The first was a visit from a media advisor for the intelligence services on 29 June, as part of that person's visit to Christchurch news rooms. The purpose of this familiarisation visit was to meet reporters and producers.
The second involved a similar meeting in Auckland on 12 July, which was followed by a visit on 29 August which the Director-General of each of the GCSB and NZSIS attended too. Again, these meetings were to meet the TVNZ producers and reporters.
The only emails between the organisations were those required for setting up the meetings above, and a general media release on behalf of the GCSB noting the awarding of three scholarships to women involved in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) fields.
In accordance with Section 19(b) of the Act we advise that you have the right to seek an investigation and review of the above refusal by making a complaint under Section 28(3) to an Ombudsman.
Yours sincerely
Brent McAnulty
