    Dear New Zealand Police,
I would like to request under the Official Information Act:
1- The method of how NZ police officers in a patrol car estimate the speed of a moving vehicle while approaching that motor vehicle from the opposite direction.
2- The criteria for NZ police officers to issue an infringement based from estimated speed.
With regard to s12 of the OIA I am a New Zealand citizen and I reside in Auckland, New Zealand.

I have been asked to let you know that Police requires an extension of
 time in which to respond to your request for:
1- The method of how NZ police officers in a patrol car estimate the speed
 of a moving vehicle while approaching that motor vehicle from the opposite
 direction. 
2- The criteria for NZ police officers to issue an infringement based from
 estimated speed.  
This extension is pursuantto section 15A(1) of the Official Information
 Act 1982, because the request necessitates consultationssuch that a proper
 response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time
 limit.
                                                                                           
Police require until 20 November 2018 to provide a substantive response to
 your request. 
 
You have the right to ask theOffice of the Ombudsman to review this
 extension.
