Dear Luke,

Thank you for your email, received on 22 July 2018. You requested the
following information, under the Local Government Official Information and
Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA):

Costs for restoration works of the Wharenui Swimming Pool [and] the future
for Wharenui Swimming Pool.

Release of information

The repairs to the Wharenui Stadium and Pool Hall buildings cost $2.9m and
included the following:

The stadium had earthquake repairs completed including a structural
retrofit with a target of 100% of the NBS, and a general upgrade.

·         Installation of four X steel frames in the walls as well as
steel beams in the ceiling.

·         The old changing rooms/sunbed rooms/saunas were replaced with
two changing rooms each with a separate accessible shower and toilet.

·         The kitchen and lounge area was updated with new carpet tiles,
ceiling tiles, and AV equipment.

·         The reception and office area was reformatted with a new
kitchenette.

·         The mezzanine area had a new ceiling installed, closing it off
completely from the stadium. The area was painted and carpeted.

·         The stadium had new insulated ceiling installed and the floor
was scuffed and polished.

·         New heating, plumbing, and electrical was put in; the whole
building was painted inside and out.

·         The garden area out the front was landscaped and two accessible
carparks were included close to the entrance. Three bench seats were
added.

The Pool Hall had earthquake repairs including a structural retrofit with
a target of 67% of the NBS, and a general upgrade to meet compliance.

•                     Installation of steel frames in the east, south, and
west walls as well as steel beams in the ceiling.

•                     Updating the three changing rooms which were
modernised, painted, and accessibility was made compliant.

•                     Installing a replacement fan and VSD to improve the
airflow in the building.

•                     Repairing the leak in the smallest teaching pool.

As outlined in the Long Term Plan 2018-2028 (see link [1]here) It is
proposed that the Wharenui Pool will close when Metro and Hornby open. A
report will need to be prepared for The Council to consider the future use
options of the stadium and pool hall building which also includes the
future plans of the Wharenui Swimming Club.
