From: Charlie Tredway

Dear Statistics New Zealand,

I have recently joined the team at Rainbow Youth as the Homelessness Support Advisor and I would greatly appreciate any statistics you may have on the total number of youth (age 15-27) experiencing Homelessness or precarious, unstable housing. I know information isn't widely captured on sexuality or gender diverse people but the intersection of homelessness statistics and sexuality/gender diverse peoples would be ideal.
Unlike other countries undertaking this work we are flying blind, so any and all pertinent information would be immensely helpful.

Yours faithfully,

Charlie Tredway

Hello Charlie

Stats NZ has no data on homelessness as such as we do not measure it. We have a definition for homelessness but have not implemented it in any survey. Likewise, we do not measure gender diversity.

See the link below for a report we did a while back around alternative housing. The available files box has the downloadable documents.

I shall pass your enquiry to an analyst who has been working on the homeless definition to see if she has any other information for you.

Hi Ron and Charlie, the only information we have available is this study by the Wellington School of Medicine. Data is based on Census and emergency housing providers. There is nothing more recent.
