Number of adverse reactions and deaths due to statin use in New Zealand

Heather Barker made this Official Information request to University of Otago

The request was successful.

From: Heather Barker

Dear University of Otago (CARM)

I would like to request an update on the number of adverse reactions to all brands of statins and cholesterol lowering medications including fatalities in the period 2001 to April 2018.

The method of reporting adverse reactions has changed over the years and in addition it appears ALL cholesterol lowering medications may not be included in your data, however I would appreciate all available information.

Yours faithfully,

Heather Barker

Dear Ms Barker

My name is Chris Stoddart, and I have recently taken over the role of Registrar at the University of Otago. I apologise for the delay in responding to your information request, which as you know, has related to unexpected staff absence. The staff member concerned has now returned to work, but on reduced hours. However, I have spoken with them today and they have confirmed that they will have this information ready for you very shortly.

In light of this, I am notifying an extension of time for response to Friday 9 November 2018, to allow the staff member concerned sufficient time to complete collation while continuing to fulfil the other duties of their role. Should the information be available prior to the 9th, we will certainly send it to you straight away. I note your right under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act to make a complaint to an Ombudsman in relation to this extension.

Apologises again for the delay.

Kind regards

Chris Stoddart
Registrar
