Avalon facility

K.I. Davis made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs

The request was successful.

From: K.I. Davis

Dear Department of Internal Affairs,

1. Nga Taonga Sound & Vision state in their 2016/2017 annual report that it is “our purpose-built archival facility at Avalon”. Can you please confirm the ownership of the former TVNZ Archive facility at Avalon – is it owned by the Crown or Nga Taonga?

2. If the facility is still owned by the Crown, can you please supply a list of all rent or occupancy payments received from Nga Taonga in relation to its occupancy of the facility since July 2014. If the archive does not pay any rent can you please supply all official information that relates to the decision not to charge a rental.

3. In relation to clause 3.2 (building additions, alternations and repairs) of the License to Occupy Archive Facility document between the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and Nga Taonga (e.g. Nga Taonga WILL SEEK THE CONSENT OF DIA before undertaking any activity which may have more than a minor effect..."). Can you please supply all official information relating to consents sought by Nga Taonga to alter, add to or repair the facility, and responses given by the Ministry.

4. Given that there is now also privately owned audiovisual material stored within the Avalon facility, can you please supply all official information about privately owned material making use of DIA fixtures and fittings. This might include briefings, meeting notes, correspondence etc.

Yours faithfully,

K.I. Davis

Good morning Mr Davis,

I apologise for the slight delay you have experienced in receiving the Department's response, which was due to you by midnight last night. I was unfortunately sick yesterday and was not able to come in to work. Due to a misunderstanding, it appears the Department's response to your request, which was finalised yesterday afternoon, was not sent out to you .

I refer you to the attached correspondence which provides the Department's response to your request.

If you have any feedback or questions regarding this response, please let me know.

Kind regards

Dear Michelle,

I'm sorry to hear that you were sick - I hope you're feeling betting now. Thanks for the response. I've found the DIA's responses to OIA requests a lot more comprehensive than some other agencies - so thank you.

I do hope you're feeling better,

Yours sincerely,

K.I. Davis
