Reasons for not providing breast prosthetic services to transwomen

Jem Traylen made this Official Information request to Capital and Coast District Health Board

The request was successful.

From: Jem Traylen

Tena koe Capital and Coast District Health Board,

Re: Reasons for not providing breast prosthetic services to transwomen.

In a recent OIA response, you stated that your policy is that breast prosthetic services are only provided to transwomen in the context of cancer treatment but not for the purposes of gender reassignment.

What are your reasons for not providing such access for gender reassignment?

Nga mihi,

Mx Jem Traylen

Tena koe Kathy Macfarlane [CCDHB],

Thank you for your response. That clarifies the surgical aspect but I was also seeking information about non-surgically inserted breastforms that transwomen commonly wear prior to or instead of surgery.

Nga mihi/kind regards
