Dear Auckland District Health Board,
Do you have a surgeon who is capable of performing gender reassignment surgeries (i.e. genital reconstruction)?

Tena koe Michelle Webb (ADHB),
Thank you for your timely response to my OIA. I just wanted to clarify one small thing - my question was actually whether you had a surgeon capable of performing such surgeries (i.e. this is part of their training) regardless of whether you are currently performing this service.
Could you please confirm that you don't currently have anyone with such qualifications?
The context for the question is that Counties Manukau DHB have confirmed that they do currently employ such a surgeon and are in process of looking at establishing a gender unit. It would therefore be helpful to know how many qualified surgeons are potentially available, at this time, in New Zealand's public health system.
Nga mihi/ Yours sincerely,
Jem Traylen
