Deaths ruled as suicides where drug, alcohol or gambling addiction was a factor
Paul Lynch made this Official Information request to Ministry of Justice
Ministry of Justice did not have the information requested.
From: Paul Lynch
Dear Ministry of Justice,
I would like some information from the chief coroners office.
I'd like some statistics for the last 5 years on suicide deaths where addiction to alcohol, drugs, or alcohol was a know contributing factor.
I'd also like some statistics for the same period on how many suicide deaths were people who had a history with the mental health system vs those with no known contact.
Yours faithfully,
Paul Lynch

Good morning Mr Lynch,
We require a slight clarification with your OIA request below.
In your Subject line you have mentioned ‘Deaths ruled as suicides where
drug, alcohol or gambling addiction was a factor’ However in your actual
request you have no mention of gambling addiction, and have instead placed
‘alcohol’ in twice.
Can you confirm if your request of “statistics for the last 5 years on
suicide deaths where addiction to alcohol, drugs, or alcohol was a know
contributing factor.” – is correct.
Or if it should read “statistics for the last 5 years on suicide deaths
where addiction to alcohol, drugs, or gambling was a known contributing
factor.” - instead?
Your clarification on this would be most helpful.
Kind regards,
