Dear Graham,
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
I refer to your Official Information Act request, dated 10 October 2017,
in which you asked:
“How many complaints have been made regarding eel fishing net thefts and
damage to nets?”
Police publishes statistics on victimisations and proceedings against
offenders for theft and property damage on [1]policedata.nz .
Unfortunately, we are unable to distinguish whether a theft or damage to
property is related to eel fishing nets and are therefore not able to
provide the information you’ve requested [please refer to section 18(g) of
the OIA].
I regret that on this occasion it has not been possible to provide the
information you have requested. I trust my response is still helpful in
guiding you to online holdings for relevant data. If you have any
questions please contact my team at [email address].
If you are not satisfied with my response to your request, you have the
right to complain to the Office of the Ombudsman and seek an investigation
and review of my decision.
Yours sincerely

Graham - you got your reply on 10 November. Police stats don't distinguish what sort of property is damaged so they can't answer your question.
