How Safe Is our Imported Seafood?

Graham Carter made this Official Information request to Ministry for Primary Industries

The request was successful.

From: Graham Carter

Dear Ministry for Primary Industries,

How much of our seafood sold and consumed in NZ is imported?
How much imported seafood is checked and tested by the MPI and customs?
What precautions are taken to ensure that Antibiotics, antifungals and antiparasitics, are not in imported seafood?
Does the MPI recognize the COOL “Country of origin labeling” regulations?
What oversight or monitoring is done or carried out to ensure the COOL regulations are adhered too?
What monitoring is done to ensure that restaurants, processed fish products, or, fish markets indicate where their fish comes from and whether they were farmed or wild-caught?

Yours faithfully,

Graham Carter

Dear Ministry for Primary Industries,

Dear Peter McCathy

Thank you for your very prompt reply.
My concern now is that you have responded to this issue very quickly yet other issues which the MPI are heavily involved in have been backdated and you have made irresponsible excuses for the delays, hiding behind legal jargon on the Ministries behalf.
I am well aware of the fact that you have had 'egg on your face' because of this and have been given an appropriate gift which you had the 'bomb squad' check out to the amusement of your 'sworn to secrecy' staff.
The recreational fishers have had enough of the corruption and collusion between the MPI and commercial fishing industry and at this current time much is happening.
We will reveal more facts as they come to hand and your attempts to cover-up and hide 'important public information which shows your position and attitude towards the recreational fishing industry, one that is just as important as the commercial fishing industry and which contributes greatly to our economy is shocking if not disgusting.
This response confirms our understanding that you are heavily involved and we invite you to prove otherwise.
regards
Graham Carter

Yours faithfully,

Graham Carter
