On 19 July 2017 I asked for copies of DoC's applications and permissions for use of 1080 for aerial poisoning of Coromandel forests ,to be sent to me as they came to hand.

DoC had all these documents by mid August 2017 when it lodged its applications and by mid-September 2017 when it received permissions. The aerial poisoning was undertaken in October 2017. However DoC did not send me the complete documents until 23 November 2017.

As this is a pattern of DoC responses, I have reached the conclusion that information which should be in the public domain is being purposefully with-held by DoC to avoid critical analysis and commentary by the public of its use of aerial poisoning on a narrow peninsula where forests are traversed by the public. Local government resolutions oppose aerial poisoning, and support trapping and hunting as methods appropriate to our environment.

This means aerial poisoning is being carried out on Coromandel Public Conservation Lands 1. without provision to the public of evidence that wholesale poisoning of the peninsula's forest eco-systems is necessary, and 2. without the public being given documentation to make an informed analysis, and 3. without the public being given timely opportunity for alternative methods to be considered.
