Mobile phone payments

Blake Bedford-Palmer made this Official Information request to Canterbury Regional Council

The request was successful.

From: Blake Bedford-Palmer

Dear Canterbury Regional Council,

With the rise of Apple Pay and Android Pay with NZ banks, and the discontinuation of metrostickki, Has Environment Canterbury looked into providing true mobile payment support (Not just a sticker) to allow passengers to pay for their fare using their mobile phone?

If so, can you please provide any documents about this topic?

Please also note that Google has said they would like to work with New Zealand public transport authorities to support "Android Pay", would you consider talking with Google about this?

Is this something your current ticket machines would be capable of? How much longer are the current machines (used since 2009) expected to be used?

Yours faithfully,

Blake Bedford-Palmer
