What Legal opinion has MPI had relating to the animal cruelty aspect of 1080 poison

T. Benseman made this Official Information request to Ministry for Primary Industries

The request was partially successful.

From: T. Benseman

Dear Ministry for Primary Industries,

What Legal opinion has MPI had relating to the animal cruelty aspect of 1080 poison. Also what strategy has MPI put in place to defend our farmers reputations given the fact that 1080 poison, spread by Beef+Lamb NZ Ltd, Dairy NZ Ltd and Deer Industry NZ Ltd in conjunction with MPI, kills 10's of thousands of animals a year in uncontrolled doses and studies have shown for instance that many possums take over 120 hours to die and pigs 80 hours to die, and appear to have excessive amounts of body trauma visible thru their skin after poisoning.

Yours faithfully,

T. Benseman
