Ministry of Social Development
Dear Ms Cox
On 29 September 2016 you contacted the Ministry requesting, under the
Official Information Act 1982, the following information:
· What is the ethnic breakdown of infants (under twelve months)
uplifted by Child Youth and Family over the last five years (January 2011
- January 2016)?
The Ministry has decided to grant your request. However, it will take some
time to prepare the information for release. The information will be sent
to you by 2 November 2016.
You asked for the information to be released to you by calendar year.
However, the Ministry cannot release the information in that form as this
is not standard reporting for the Ministry. The Ministry has therefore
decided to release the information to you by financial year (year ending
June 2011 to year ending June 2016).
Please note that in certain circumstances low numbers may potentially lead
to individuals being identified. Due to these privacy concerns some
numbers will be suppressed. Secondary suppression rules will also be
applied when required. Suppression is in accordance with section 9(2)(a)
of the Official Information Act in order to protect the privacy of natural
persons. The need to protect the privacy of these individuals outweighs
any public interest in this information.
If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
