KiwiRail
Dear Sir / Madam
We are writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 request
dated 24 August 2016 requesting information on the status of DBR and DC
locomotive hulks. Your questions and KiwiRail’s response are outlined
below:
“Just wanting to know if the hulks of 4202 4824 4496 1239 and 1241 are
still remaining or have been scrapped?“
The hulks of the DC4202, DC4824, DC4496, DBR1239, and DBR1241 have been
scrapped.
- The DBR1239 and DBR1241 locomotives were scrapped in 2008.
- The DC4824 was heavily damaged in a level crossing incident and
the DC4202 was involved in a collision. Both locomotives suffered
extensive damage that would not be economical to repair.
- The DC4496’s underframe was scrapped in 2008.
Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to seek an investigation and
review of this decision by way of complaint to the Ombudsman. Refer to
[1]www.ombudsman.govt.nz for more information.
Regards
Louise
