Communications and advice about lost luggage bill

Alex Harris made this Official Information request to Auckland Council

Auckland Council did not have the information requested.

From: Alex Harris

Dear Auckland Council,

On 16 august 2016, in response to a question in Parliament about the Airport Authorities (Publicising Lost Property Sales) Amendment Bill, MP Nuk Korako claimed that "the Auckland Airport authority has actually contacted me and said what a great idea this was". Insofar as I can tell, you are the Auckland Airport Authority due to the Airport Authorities (Auckland Council) Order 2006, so I would like to request the following information under LGOIMA.

* all advice and communications about the Airport Authorities (Publicising Lost Property Sales) Amendment Bill. I'm particularly interested in seeing whether you contacted Mr Korako as claimed.

I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the fyi.org.nz website.

Yours faithfully,

Alex Harris

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your request. In terms of the Auckland Airport Authority you refer to, we believe you are referring to Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL), which the Auckland Council does not manage. If this is the case please contact them directly.

The Auckland Council is only responsible for the ownership and operation of the two small aerodromes on Great Barrier Island.

We have confirmed this with Auckland Transport, and that there has been no communication with Mr Korako.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries.

Kind regards
Sarah

Dear Official Information,

Thanks for your response. Auckland International Airport is covered by the OIA in regards to its activities as an airport authority, so could you please transfer this request under s12 LGOIMA?

Yours sincerely,

Alex Harris

Hi Alex,

Under the Auckland Airport Act 1987, Auckland International Airport is deemed to be an airport company. Airport authorities are covered by LGOIMA, but not airport companies. Airport companies in which more than 50% of the ordinary shares are owned by, or by any combination of, the Crown, any local authority, or any council-controlled organisation are subject to the OIA, but Auckland International Airport does not meet these criteria. Accordingly, this request cannot be transferred under section 12 of LGOIMA, but you would be welcome to contact Auckland International Airport directly.

Kind regards
Sarah
