Credentials Audit

Beryl Beauchamp made this Official Information request to Wellington City Council

The request was partially successful.

From: Beryl Beauchamp

Dear Wellington City Council,

I write to enquire, by way of the LGOIM Act 1987, as to whether the Chief Executive's Office audits the credentials of senior staff members - i.e. are there checks in place to ensure senior managers actually hold the qualifications they claim to hold at the time of appointment?

If the Council has any reports or policies on this matter please include them in response.

Yours faithfully,

Beryl Beauchamp

Dear Beryl

Thank you for your request.

If I have understood your request correctly, the Chief Executive's Office is not specifically responsible for "auditing" the credentials or qualifications of staff members - regardless of their seniority in the organisation. The delegation for recruitment of staff is managed via the Council's HR team assisting the relevant manager or team leader and/or with assistance from external recruitment providers.

Where specific technical expertise is required, the Council undertakes appropriate steps to confirm any pre-requisite qualifications and reference checking once a preferred candidate is identified. More broadly though, the Council works to appoint the right people, with the right skills and experience to positions in the organisation.

I hope this answers your request.

Regards
Deborah Howse
