New Zealand Police

Hello Mr Kelly, thank you for your information request.

I wish to take the opportunity to clarify a few points in relation to how
Police would prefer to receive requests for information. Police ask
requesters to provide their name, date of birth, address &/or
email with two forms of identification.  Under the Privacy Act Police are
required to take reasonable steps to satisfy itself of the identity of a
requester before releasing any personal information.

It would assist Police to process your request and satisfy our
requirements as to identification of a requester if you could provide
these details with your request.

It would also greatly assist Police to process your request if you could
provide some information or context for the request as when the request
relates to information about people other than yourself, Police are
required to consider the privacy interests of the other parties.

Kind regards

Deb Collins

Dear New Zealand Police,

Thank you for the reply. How do you want me to send you the
information you require as I am aware of the need to protect my
private information on the net and Im sure you would advise me to
be careful in this respect. The reason I am interested in all
aspects of this case is because I have been gathering information
to help me write a book about how things impinge on perforemance in
SAR and what we can learn from this.

Yours faithfully,

Paul Kelly

Dear SMITH, Jason,
Thank you for letting me know why my request has been refused. I know that the commissioner must be a very buzzy person but it saddens me when it seems he is unaware of a case that has had some national exposure in the media and the coriners inquest at which his officers were questioned on there perforemance and capabilities and that there are on going issues around this case.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Kelly
