DFT Locomotive Plans/Status
Lachlan Turning made this Official Information request to KiwiRail
Response to this request is long overdue. By law KiwiRail should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Lachlan Turning
Dear KiwiRail,
I am making this request to find out about the status of the DFT class locomotives. I understand that the DFB subclass is currently being overhauled, however, I was wondering about the following things:
- What may be the intentions for each individual DFT locomotive stored at Hutt Workshops?
- What are the future plans for the DFT locomotive class?
- May we see future DFT locomotive withdrawals?
Kind regards,
Lachlan Turning

KiwiRail
Good afternoon Lachlan
We are writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 request
dated 15 February 2016 for the following information:
· What may be the intentions for each individual DFT locomotive
stored at Hutt Workshops?
· What are the future plans for the DFT locomotive class?
· May we see future DFT locomotive withdrawals?
The DFTs that are currently at Hutt Workshop, apart from crash damaged
7117, all have corrosion and are unfit to run.
KiwiRail is working through what options are available to it regarding the
future of the DFT locomotives and no decision has yet been made.
Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to seek an investigation and
review of this decision by way of complaint to the Ombudsman. Refer to
[1]www.ombudsman.govt.nz for more information.
Regards
Louise
