Dear Erika,
I refer to your request below. As consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a response cannot reasonably be
given within the original time limit, the University has extended the time
limit for your request until 3 June 2026 under section 15A(1)(b) of the
OIA.
You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this extension.
Yours sincerely,

University of Auckland
Dear Erika,
I refer to your request of 29 April 2026. The University's response
follows.
"1. Would you please share the Gazette notices for the vaccinators who are
administering these vaccinations?
2 Would you please share the Gazette notice for the approval of the flu
vaccine being administered on campus?"
Vaccinators are not gazetted or required to be gazetted. The activity of
administering influenza vaccinations on campus is not gazetted or required
to be gazetted. This constitutes a refusal of your request under section
18(e) of the OIA, as the documents requested do not exist.
"3 What is the full budget breakdown for this activity on campus at
various locations, eg capex, opex or funded by HNZ?"
I understand you are referring to the following statement on webpage
linked in your request:
"Safeguarding the health of our staff and students is a priority for
Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. As we approach the winter
months we encourage all of you to get the flu vaccination. The cost of
this for our students and eligible staff will be paid for by the
University."
The University has an annual budget of $54K for staff, and $54K for
students, for influenza vaccinations this year.
4. "The campus wide email dated 23 April about the flu shot says:
"It only takes a few minutes to protect your health and keep you feeling
100% all semester long.""
"How is the effectiveness of this control measure assessed at Auckland
Uni?"
The statement that the influenza vaccination will "keep you feeling 100%
all semester long" is obviously not intended to be taken literally.
"5. For the past 60 days, what is the number of sick days taken by staff
that have taken this flu vaccination from your HR system? aggregate
summaries by faculty will suffice and protect privacy"
"6 For the past 60 days, what is the number of sick days taken by staff
that have not taken this flu vaccination? Aggregate summaries by faculty
will suffice and protect privacy"
The University does not hold this information. Parts 5 and 6 of your
request are refused under section 18(g) of the OIA.
You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with the University's response.
Yours sincerely,
