Fire and Emergency New Zealand
Tēnā koe Brianna
Thank you for your request of 18 January 2025 to Fire and Emergency asking
for information related to fire stations in New Zealand and specifically
about the Karikari Fire Station. Your request is being processed in
accordance with the provisions of the Official information Act 1982 (OIA).
Question five of your request asks for:
5. Any reports or internal assessments from the last three years
identifying fire stations with significant building defects or health
and safety risks (including mould, asbestos, or water damage).
We can advise that Fire and Emergency has over 600 fire stations
throughout the country. As currently framed, question 5 of your request,
without refinement, is likely to be refused under section 18(f) of the OIA
as the requested information cannot be made available without substantial
collation or research. This is because to identify all relevant reports
and internal assessments over three years for all stations would require
significant resource and we consider it would have an unreasonable impact
on our normal operations.
In line with our obligations under section 18B of the OIA, and in order to
remove our possible need to refuse this portion of your request, we are
writing to seek refinement of your request. We propose refining your
request to be for any reports or internal assessments from the last three
years identifying fire stations with significant building defects or
health and safety risks (including mould, asbestos, or water damage)
regarding Karikari Fire Station only.
We look forward to hearing from you soon. If no reply is received we will
consider your request as it is currently framed.
Ngā mihi,

Kia ora,
Thank you for your email.
I am happy to refine question 5.
For the last three years, please provide any existing national-level summary documents (if held) that identify fire stations with significant building defects or health and safety risks (including mould, asbestos, or water damage). This could include any asset condition registers, facilities/maintenance risk registers, prioritisation matrices, dashboards, or similar summaries.
In addition, please provide any reports or internal assessments relating specifically to the Karikari Fire Station over the last three years.
Also yes feel free to redact names for privacy.
Ngā mihi,
Brianna Anglesey
