Measles and hospitalization data - Dr Susan Jack's acorn
Erika Whittome made this Official Information request to Health New Zealand
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Erika Whittome to read a recent response and update the status.
From: Erika Whittome
Dear Health New Zealand,
There is an article online here about measles https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/nation...
The articles quotes a Health NZ expert Dr Susan Jack. I will copy and paste:
"Health NZ NPHS protection clinical director Dr Susan Jack said it can affect adults as well as children and babies.
Measles symptoms usually start within 10 to 14 days after the initial exposure to the virus.
...
One out of three people with measles will be sick enough to need hospital care."
Would you please share the notifiable disease data that shows one out of three people with measles have been in hospital care?
Yours faithfully,
Erika Whittome
From: Erika Whittome

Dear hnzOIA,
Thanks for the response. The link says summary says "8 weekly reports available in this zip file. A total of ten confirmed cases reported for weeks 1-8 of 2020, bringing the total to 2195 since 1 January 2019, with 774 (35.3%) hospitalizations."
OK so this was the hospitalization rate just for the time period 1 Jan 2019 until Mid Feb 2020.
Would you please define Hospitalization in the information you have provide? Was it an acute stay? Or a long-term stay?
Yours sincerely,
Erika Whittome
