Dear New Zealand Police,
I request the following information:
1. Police involvement in approval or conditions for protest/march events on the Auckland Harbour Bridge
For each of the following events, please provide:
Whether NZ Police was consulted regarding approval of the event
Any conditions, requirements, or advice Police communicated to organisers
Any conditions, requirements, or advice Police communicated to Waka Kotahi, Auckland Council, or Auckland Transport regarding the event
Any risk assessments or operational planning documents prepared
The events are:
(a) The Toitū te Tiriti hikoi that crossed the Auckland Harbour Bridge in November 2024
(b) Any Gaza/Palestine-related protest or march that crossed or occupied the Auckland Harbour Bridge during 2024-2025
(c) The proposed "Kiwi Patriots" / Destiny Church march across the Auckland Harbour Bridge planned for 2025/2026
2. Internal communications and deliberations
For each of the three events/proposed events listed above, please provide:
All internal emails, memos, briefings, or other correspondence discussing the event
Any communications between NZ Police and Waka Kotahi, Auckland Council, or Auckland Transport regarding the event
Any communications between NZ Police and the organisers of each event
Any documents recording Police advice or input into decision-making regarding approval, conditions, or operational response to these events
3. Legal basis for permit/approval requirements
Please provide:
Any legal advice, policy documents, or guidance held by Police regarding whether protests or marches on state highways (including the Auckland Harbour Bridge) require permits or prior approval
Any documents outlining the legal distinction (if any) between a "protest" and an "event" for the purposes of road closure or traffic management requirements
I would appreciate receiving this information in electronic format.
