Processing of LGOIMA (Local Government Official Information and Meetings
Act) Requests during the Christmas / New Year Period 
Please note that the processing time for all LGOIMA Requests (both online
and offline) received on or after Monday 24 November 2025 may be extended
due to the way in which response times are measured during this period.   
What does this mean? 
The holiday period from 20th December in any year and ending with 10th
January (inclusive) in the following year are not deemed as working days.
Horowhenua District Council is therefore not obligated to process Official
Information Requests during this period.   
Horowhenua District Council will be closing for the Christmas break from
close of business Tuesday, 23 December 2025 and reopening Monday 5 January
2026. 
The response dates shown below have been taken into account on any
requests during this time as per the Ombudsman’s’ website - [1]Ombudsman -
official-information-calculators 

 1. Summer holidays (20 December to 10 January)
 2. Christmas (25 December 2025)
 3. New Year's Day (1 January 2026) 

The Definition of a Working Day 
The definition of a working day in the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987 is any day of the week other than: 
(a)           Saturday, Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Monday, ANZAC Day,
Labour Day, the Sovereign's Birthday and Waitangi Day; and
(b)          The day observed as the provincial anniversary day in the
area in question; and
(c)           A day in the period commencing with the 20th day of December
in any year and ending with the 10th day of January in the following year.
