From: Maunga Authority
Auckland Council
Tēnā koe Adam
Your request was transferred to the Maunga Authority under the Local
Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA) and was
formally received by us on 2 September 2025. The details of your request
and our corresponding response are outlined below.
1- What is the monthly costs for keeping the lights on all night, every
night, in the public toilets on North Head in Devonport?
We have not isolated the monthly cost of having the lights on. The
intended process is for the lights to be switched off when the toilets are
locked each day.
2- Why is it deemed necessary to keep the toilet lights on all night when
the park is closed to both vehicles and pedestrians?
Our security subcontractors are responsible for locking the toilet block
each evening and ensuring the lights are switched off. If the lights are
found to be on after hours, this likely reflects a procedural oversight.
We will be issuing a reminder to our security subcontractors to reinforce
the importance of consistently switching off the lights each night.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this response.
