On 3 August 2025, you requested the following information, under the Local
Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA):

 

Please advise the water draw-off from the Christchurch City Council's
water supply by home gardeners for each day of February 1973.

If there is another set of data for home water supply draw-off, can I
please have that too.

 

Unfortunately Christchurch City Council’s retention period of operational
water usage records is only a ten year period, which means that any data
which may have been collected in 1973 related to water supply draw off no
longer exists within our records, and we will need to decline this request
under section 17(e) of the LGOIMA, the information requested does not
exist or cannot be found.

 

We understand that there was an article on PapersPast recently that
specifically references water draw-off on 5 February 1973. This is not
within our records, but is publicly available here:

We have managed to find a few further records within our archives related
to water supplied during February 1973 in the City Engineer’s Department
Annual Report and the Works Services Committee minutes from 7 March 1973.
Photographs of these records can be found attached. Please note that they
do not give drawn-off water by the day and by function, but they do
provide some broader related water usage statistics from the time period.
