Dear Department of Internal Affairs,

According to the Performance Report (year ended 31 March 2024) of Asturlab Cultural Centre, a registered charity in Christchurch, #CC59273 - it is noted that you, the Department of Internal Affairs gave Asturlab $30,000 for their "4 For 40 Campaign", which currently is a campaign to- "end government’s complicit silence on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to advocate for an end to hostilities." As well as a- "billboard campaign to amplify voices for Gaza, challenge indifference, and demand a ceasefire".

1. I request to see their proposal to DIA (DIA funding org) for this money, your approval letter, and all emails, memos of meetings, and correspondence in regards to this fund. Also any final or interim report on the grant.

2. Please supply evidence that you did due diligence on this grant application to ensure that the New Zealand taxpayer via DIA are providing funds for the charitable purpose of Asturlab, a local charity for local people, and that it is not used in any other manner, ie. amplifying the war goals of Hamas. Noting that Hamas in its entirety is designated as a terrorist entity in New Zealand, after the horrific terrorist attacks on 7 October.

3. Was any of this fund used for the provision of private humanitarian support to Palestinian civilians, or to amplify the war goals of Hamas?

Yours faithfully,

Pseudonym,
New Zealand
