Dear Alice,

I refer to your request of 16 June 2025. As consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a response cannot reasonably be given within the original time limit, the University has extended the time limit for your request until 29 July 2025 under section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA. We will respond to your request as soon as reasonably practicable.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied with this extension.

University of Auckland

Dear Alice,

I refer to your request of 16 June 2025. I apologise for the delay in the
University’s response. The University’s response follows.

“There is no longer the 'Transnational Cultures and Creative Practices'
major for the Bachelor of Global Studies as of 2026 Enrolments. Can you
please let me know why there is a change in the offerings available for
the BGlobalSt?”

The Faculty has provided the information requested below:

“SUSPEND: New admissions/new enrolments to the Bachelor of Global Studies,
Bachelor of Global Studies conjoint degrees (BA/BGlobalSt, BCom/BGlobalSt,
BGlobalSt/LLB, BGlobalSt/LLB(Hons), BGlobalSt/BSc), Major in Transnational
Cultures and Creative Practice

SUSPENSION start date: 01/01/2026

REVIEW date: 01/01/2029

Justification:
The programme has recently been subject to a Graduating Year Review and on
review of the completion data across the 4 majors it is evident that the
Transnational Cultures and Creative Practice major has the lowest student
interest and is underperforming. The Programme Director and School agree
that due to low student interest this major should be suspended for the
net available intake, this being S1, 2026.

Arrangements for current students:
Courses that make up this major will continue to be offered, so each of
the active students can complete their studies without issue. The faculty
doesn’t anticipate any issues for current students enrolled in this
major.”

Yours sincerely,
