Kia ora Debbie
Thank you for your email received on 21 May 2025 for the following
information made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the OIA):
Please provide the number of doctor positions in public hospitals
nationwide that have remained unfilled for longer than three months,
broken down by role, hospital, specialty, and reason for vacancy, from
July 2022 to the present.
As it is currently worded, your request may be refused under section 18(f)
- substantial collation and research. This is because in order to collate
the information Health NZ would need to gather the information from each
of its Hospitals in order to respond.
To assist you, we have provided the below as a suggested refinement which
will assist us in providing a response in a more timely manner:
* Provide the number of Senior Medical Officer roles where recruitment
for those roles has been ongoing for longer than 90 days at a point in
time, broken down by speciality and district.
* We also suggest shortening your requested time frame of July 2022 to
the present as it is too large.
We appreciate you are under no obligation to amend your request, but
requests that require substantial collation may be refused under section
18(f) of the OIA. We want to work with you to avoid this and ensure we are
able to provide a response that best meets your needs.
Please let us know before 5.00pm on 5 June 2025 your acceptance or
otherwise of the suggested refinement.
Please note, if you do amend or clarify your request, this will be
considered as a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum
statutory time frame for response.
