Kainga Ora Restructure Rationale

Phoebe McKinney made this Official Information request to Kāinga Ora–Homes and Communities

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Phoebe McKinney to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Phoebe McKinney

Dear Kāinga Ora–Homes and Communities,

I am writing to submit an Official Information Act request with urgency regarding the recent disestablishment of all the positions affected. I request the following information:

1. **Rationale for Disestablishment**: Please provide a detailed explanation of the rationale behind the disestablishment, broken down by team. I am particularly interested in:
- The factors that led to the decision for each team involved.
- Any relevant documents or reports that outline the decision-making process.
- Why roles that were vacant were disestablished and the rationale including reports as to why.

2. **Information on Redundancies**: I would like to understand why redundancies have been announced in relation to this restructure.
Specifically:
- The reasons provided for the redundancies.
- Whether this indicates that more cuts will be made in the future and, if so, the criteria that will be used to determine any further cuts.

Reason for urgency:

I would like the information by 14 April 2025.

There is a public interest in the release of this information before the staff consultation period on the proposed restructure and staff cuts closes.
Staff should be able to evaluate what the proposal prepared by the expert consultants and a small group of internal staff was at that time.

Staff and the public need to understand the thinking behind the plan presented at the workshop and how it compares to the 3 April proposal that made deep cuts to staff. These cuts have the potential to negatively impact on the service delivery of a government agency that serves over 200,000 people.

I appreciate your attention to this request and look forward to your prompt response in accordance with the timelines outlined in the Official Information Act.

Thank you
Phoebe McKinney
