Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,
With the impending United States TikTok ban, I am curious as to how our government is monitoring the situation.
Under the OIA, please provide any internal monitoring documents or advice provided related to the USA TikTok ban, or any documents proposing advice regarding a similar ban in Aotearoa.
Thank you very much for you time and please know the work which goes into OIA responses is much appreciated. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.
Yours faithfully,
Dan Moskovitz

TikTok ban, or any documents proposing advice regarding a similar ban in

the consultations necessary to make a decision on your request (section
15(1)(b) of the OIA refers).
However, if this process is completed before 25 February 2025, the
response will be sent to you as soon as possible.

Dear ESD,
I am confused as to why MFAT needed to do consultation on information which does not exist.
If MFAT has done no monitoring, then why was the deadline for this response extended?
Yours sincerely,
Dan Moskovitz
From: Dan Moskovitz
Dear ESD,
I just wanted to follow up on my previous message, regarding why MFAT had to do consultation on information which does not exist.
Please consider this an official attempt to resolve the issue prior to an Ombudsman complaint.
Yours sincerely,
Dan Moskovitz

Thank you for contacting us to seek clarification on our response to your
OIA request.
Our extension advisory email of 14 February 2025 should have specified
that the deadline to provide a decision on your request had been extended
under both section 15A(1)(a) and (b) of the OIA as the Ministry needed to
search several locations to ascertain if information relevant to your
request was held and this work was not complete at that time. We believed
that consultation would have been required if information had been
located. When the Ministry finalised our response which confirmed no
information existed, this removed the need for any consultation and our
response was provided to you. I apologise for the error and any confusion
this caused.
Kind regards
