Thank you for your email of 16 January 2025 in which you request the following under
the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):
…please provide any internal monitoring documents or advice provided related to
the USA TikTok ban, or any documents proposing advice regarding a similar ban in
Aotearoa.
On 14 February 2025, the timeframes for responding to your request were extended by
an additional 7 working days due to the consultations necessary to make a decision on
your request (section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA refers).
The Ministry of Foreign of Affairs and Trade (the Ministry) has not done any internal
monitoring or provided any advice of the possible United States TikTok ban, nor have we
provided any advice on a similar ban in New Zealand. Accordingly, your request is
refused under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the information requested does not exist.
