Intelligence possible war crimes committed by parties to the Bougainville Civil War (1988-1998)

Marcus Boomen made this Official Information request to Ministry of Defence

The request was partially successful.

From: Marcus Boomen

I am requesting information you may possess on any suspected war crimes or war time atrocities committed by any and all parties to the Bougainville Civil War (1988-1998) or during the subsequent peace process.

These parties include:

Bougainville Interim Government (BIG)
Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA)
Papua New Guinea Government Forces
The Pro-Government Resistance
Australian Nationals

If this information is in your archives I presume it will be in some form of situation report or briefing or in relation to Bougainville Peace Agreement and the operations of the Peace Monitoring Group. Furthermore would you be able to advise me on what other government 'agencies' may have this type of information and any way to narrow down my search in further OIAs to those agencies.

Dear Ministry of Defence,

Yours faithfully,

Marcus Boomen

Good morning Marcus

Further to our call, on 21 July, we received the following OIA request
from you: “I am requesting information you may possess on any suspected
war crimes committed by parties to the Bougainville Civil War (1988 –
1998)”

Although we extended this request, we would still be required to get a
response to you by today. However, you have indicated that you would like
to withdraw the above request and substitute a new one.

Provided you are happy with that approach, would you please be able to
email me with a message that formally withdraws your OIA request of 21
July, and then sets out the particulars of your latest request? Once I
have those details, I can set things in motion.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Kind regards

Peter
