Dear Mr Riley

I refer to your email of 15 October and attach the following:

 1. Payments made – spreadsheet.

 2. Advice provided to Mr Arbuckle in terms of his role as an MP; advice
provided to Council and or Mayor regarding Mr Arbuckle in terms of his
role as an MP; any correspondence between the Mayor and Chief
Executive; the Mayor and Mr Arbuckle; and the Chief Executive and Mr
Arbuckle in terms of his role as an MP – no communication other than
as provided below.

 3. The only communications we can locate after a search involving the PAs
for the Mayor, the Chief Executive and others are as follows:

* Emails between the Mayor and Councillor Arbuckle dated 26 March about
a catch up.

* Emails 24 May 2024 about a further catch up on issues indicated.

* There was a communication which is withheld for legal professional
privilege [s7(2)(g) LGOIMA].  It covered the need for a decision by Mr
Arbuckle as either MP or Councillor in terms of potential conflict of
interest on some matters to be dealt with by Council that involved
input from Council’s General Counsel.

* Emails dated 27 August 2024 covering resignation process.

There were some communications which were not seen as relevant to your
request that offered the opportunity of various meetings with NZ First
representatives when they were visiting Marlborough.

For the item withheld you have the right to seek review by the Ombudsman.
The office that deals with this Council is based in Wellington. You could
action a complaint online, by emailing [1][email address] or
by post to the Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143.
