Dear University of Auckland,
I request the following information:
1. The full costs of developing the "Chat the Weird Out" promotional campaign.
2. The full costs of placing and promoting the videos, images, posters and other materials in all media channels, with a breakdown by channel.
3. The name or position of the person in the University who authorised the above expenditure.
4. Any correspondence or documents from 1 January 2024 in which the costs, funding source or benefits of the campaign are discussed.

Dear Yossarian,
I refer to your request of 25 August 2024, for information under the
Official Information Act 1982 (Act). We apologise for the delay in
providing our response. The University’s response follows.
1. “The full costs of developing the "Chat the Weird Out" promotional
campaign.”
$92,104.35
2. “The full costs of placing and promoting the videos, images, posters
and other materials in all media channels, with a breakdown by
channel.”
EMC Billboards: $9,119.31
EMC Digital Ad- Tiktok: $10,000
Copy and Print: $1,348.24”
3. “The name or position of the person in the University who authorised
the above expenditure.”
The expenditure for this campaign was authorised by Paul Cunningham, the
University of Auckland Foundation’s General Manager.
4. “Any correspondence or documents from 1 January 2024 in which the
costs, funding source or benefits of the campaign are discussed.”
This part of your request is refused under section 18(f) of the Official
Information Act, on the basis that the information required cannot be
provided without substantial collation or research. We can, however,
provide you with a copy of the Funding Proposal Health Connections,
subject to some information being withheld under the following grounds:
section 9(2)(j) of the OIA, as withholding the information is necessary to
enable to the University to carry on, without prejudice or disadvantage,
negotiations (including commercial and industrial negotiations).
You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.
