Ahi Kaa Service at Human Rights Commissioner's Office

Sarah made this Official Information request to Human Rights Commission

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Sarah to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Sarah

Dear Human Rights Commission,

This is the recent response from your Chief Executive Officer from this Office
''Ahi Kaa plays a crucial role in promoting and advancing Te Tiriti o Waitangi, indigenous rights, andhuman rights. Ahi Kaa contributes significantly to the Commission’s goal of becoming a Tiriti-based organisation by providing strategic advice, thought leadership, policy analysis, research, and engagement. Ahi Kaa offers guidance and advice to help support the Commission’s dispute resolution service and its mediators, we do not have the capacity to provide cultural support during mediation processes"

I would like full disclosure of the role that Ahi Kaa service provides as part of dispute resolutions process and it's mediators here at the Human Rights Commissioner's Office.

Can the Human Rights Commissioner's Office explain what is meant by the HRC not having any capacity to provide cultural support during mediation process for Māori complainants?

What does the HRC mean by the exclusion of ''cultural support'' for Māori complainants?

Yours faithfully,
Sarah Brodrick
