From: Jaspreet K
Kia Ora Christchurch City Council,
Can you please provide the following information:
- the currently scheduled citizenship ceremony dates and the capacities of each ceremony
- the number of people currently on the citizenship ceremony waitlist
Kind Regards,

From: Official Information
Christchurch City Council
Kia ora Jaspreet,
Thank you for your information request under the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).
We can confirm the following dates have been booked for upcoming
citizenship ceremonies in Christchurch:
Monday, 26 August 2024
Monday, 23 September 2024
Wednesday, 16 October 2024
Monday, 25 November 2024
Regarding your request for attendance numbers and amount of people on the
waitlist, while these ceremonies are organised by the Council, the Council
is not responsible for allocating candidates to ceremony dates. This is
organised by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA). All Ceremonies are
by invitation only, with the invitations sent to new citizens by the DIA
directly. Due to this reason, the information which you have requested is
not held by the Christchurch City Council, but we believe that this
information is held by the DIA.
We have requested transfer of this part of your request to the DIA under
section 12 of the LGOIMA. Once they confirm that they will accept the
transfer we will provide you with the official transfer letter.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review our
decision. Complaints can be sent by email to
[1][email address].
Publication of responses to LGOIMA requests
Please note: our LGOIMA responses may be published on the Christchurch
City Council website a month after they have been responded to, with
requesters’ personal details withheld. If you have any concerns about
this, please contact the Official Information team on
[2][Christchurch City Council request email].
Yours sincerely,
