New Hate Speech Training
Nathan made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was refused by New Zealand Police.
From: Nathan
Dear New Zealand Police,
Recently a member of the NZ Police leaked a couple of photos of training he was undertaking to the Free Speech Union. The material has been criticised by free speech advocates for the potential backlash this could mean for free speech within New Zealand. Im sure you agree with the public interest in this matter.
Examples from the leaked photos include
"Transgenderism is a mental disorder"
"Austic retards are useless"
"Kiwi not Iwi"
Can you confirm
1) The New Zealand Police have introduced new "Hate Speech Training" for officers?
2) Who created the "Hate Speech Training" material for the New Zealand Police? If individual identity is withheld, what group/company/department did create it?
2A) What, if any, groups/people/person assisted with the determination or terminology of hate speech in the "Hate Speech Training"?
3) If all officers are being trained with this new "Hate Speech Training"?
4) What specific topics are covered in the "Hate Speech Training" for New Zealand Police officers?
5) What Government Act will speech defined as "Hate Speech" be actioned on?
Thank you for your help in this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Nathan Earle Jones
