New Zealand Transport Agency
Dear Charlie
Thank you for your request for information regarding the State Highway 2
(SH2) Waihî to Ômokoroa safety improvements project. Your request has been
considered under the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act) and we have numbered your requests below for ease of reference.
We consider point (1) of your request to be very broad in nature. As you
will be aware, the 40-kilometre stretch of SH2 is split into 10 sections
and construction works have been underway since 2018, as outlined in the
project timeline available on the project’s webpage at:
[1]https://www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/sh2-wa...
There are also multiple improvements we are making as part of this
project, which include:
o widening the road
o putting in a wide centreline to help separate oncoming traffic
o widening the road shoulders to give drivers more room
o putting in roadside safety barriers where there are hazards such as
power poles, trees and deep ditches
o making intersections safer
o installing flexible median barrier and turnaround areas.
As a result, this project has a considerably large volume of drawings,
with revisions history that span the last five years, that could fall
within the scope of your current request. To help us provide the
information which is most relevant to you, please clarify:
o which specific element and location of the SH2 Waihi to Ômokoroa
project you are seeking drawings for
o what date range in which the drawings were issued.
You may also be interested in the feasibility drawings, which are
published at:
[2]https://www.nzta.govt.nz/assets/projects...
Further, we also consider the Feasibility Design Report, which was done in
2021, does contain the information you requested in points (2), (3) and
(6). The report is publicly available at:
[3]https://www.nzta.govt.nz/assets/projects....
If you’re unable to locate the information you’re seeking within the
report, you are welcome to come back to us with a more specific questions.
With regard to points (4) and (5), we can confirm that the design for the
Work Road intersection has not yet started as it is scheduled to begin
construction in 2025. As such, there are no documents we can provide you
with at this stage. Please advise if you wish to withdraw or proceed with
these two parts of your request.
We would appreciate if you could come back to us as soon as possible so we
can progress collating the information for you. Providing as much detail
as possible about the information you are seeking would be very helpful.
Please note, any clarification or amendment of a request is considered to
be a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory
timeframe for response as allowed under section 15(1AA) of the Act.
